The Pomeranian is a dog breed in the Spitz family, named for the region of Poland Pomerania and classed as a "toy" breed because of their small size. They are the smallest member of the Spitz group of breeds. The breed became popular in late 1800's after Queen Victoria, who saw them on a visit to Florence, established a breeding kennel in the United Kingdom.

An extrovert which is affectionate, obedient and full of character. For their size Pomeranians are excellent house dogs with a deep bark.

The Pomeranian has great intelligence and a natural gift for learning, which made it a popular circus performer. Like all dogs in the Spitz group, it is an independent breed and shows this characteristic from an early age.
