The Affenpinscher is a terrier-like toy breed of dog. Weighing 7-8 pounds (3-4 kg) and not exceeding 10.25 inches (26-27 cm) in height, it has bushy eyebrows, shaggy hair and a monkey-like appearance. The coat is medium long, harsh and wiry in texture.
Available colours are black or black with grey shading in the UK.
The breed is European in origin and dates back to the seventeenth century. Its name is derived from the German affe ("ape", "monkey") and pinscher ("terrier"). The breed predates and is ancestral to the Brussels Griffon and Belgian Griffon.
