Kjalarnes is an established show/breeding kennel based in the heart of England just five minutes from the Birmingham NEC.
We have had Newfoundlands and Leonbergers for over 17 years. We have shown extensively in the past and have recently returned to the show ring.Dogs bred by us have been successfully shown in the UK, having several Best of Breed as well as Best Bitch and Best Puppy wins and Best Puppy in Breed.
HEALTH/ETHICS We are members of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme and the Leonberger Club of Great Britain and are fully committed to ethical breeding practices. We have bred four generations of puppies, all from fully health screened parents who are good examples of their breed. We aim to produce healthy, happy puppies with good temperaments ,ideal for families or for show homes if appropriate.
REARING PUPPIES Puppies are always reared and socialised in our home. They are fully health monitored from birth and are checked by our vet prior to leaving for their new homes.
CONTRACT OF SALE All puppies are are sold with a contract of sale guaranteeing the rights of the new owner plus a commitment to the future welfare of the puppy. Puppies are additionally provided with four weeks free insurance. We do, however, ask as a condition of sale, that the insurance is continued for at least the one further year to cover against all eventualities. ALL LARGE AND GIANT BREEDS have the potential to have hip dysplacia which usually becomes apparent in the first year of life.
ONGOING SUPPORT We aim to provide ongoing support to new owners, whether it is to give advice over the phone or to help on site with grooming or behavioural problems. Several puppies have returned for holidays. In recent years the majority of our puppies have gone to homes already owning a dog we have bred.
The future welfare of puppies bred by us is paramount when placing them in new homes. Owning a giant breed puppy requires special commitment and to this end we reserve the right not to sell a puppy to a home where we feel its welfare will be compromised.
We are confident about the service we provide and the condition of our dogs and puppies. To this end we positively encourage visits from our local authority animal welfare team even though we are not licensed.
