The field spaniel is similar to the Springer and Cocker Spaniels. It was developed as a cross between these two breeds of dog during the middle of the 19th century. The breed almost die out in the early part of the 20th century and only a handful existed in the 1960s. Nearly all Field Spaniels today stem from this handful of dogs. These dogs are ideal for rough shooting or companion for the country dweller. Generally not considered suitable for city living.
