The Khao Manee (meaning white gem) is the fourth natural breed of cat in
Thailand, at least as old as the other three great Thai breeds (the Siamese,
Burmese and the Korat). Previously known as Khao Phlort, and mentioned in
the Tamra Mew (the ancient Thai book of cat poems), they are incredibly rare
in the Western world, and now being seen as an endangered species in their
own country. Every effort is being made to perpetuate the breed.
The Khao Manee is a pure white cat of foreign type, but its most stunning
feature is the "diamond" effect of their eyes. The eye colour is blue or
yellow, with the odd-eyed variety most sought after as "lucky cats" in their
native land.
This is the fourth and last great Thai breed to leave the land and arrive at
our shores.
